Rolls-Royce creates new jobs in leathershop expansion

12/12/2013
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has today announced expansion plans for the leathershop at its headquarters in Goodwood in the south of England. The expansion comes following success in the luxury car market of the brand’s Phantom and Ghost models, as well as of the newly launched Wraith.

An additional 10 positions in the machinist team have been created as a result and the company is looking for people to fill them.

The machinist team was launched with just four people in 2002; it now comprises 40 skilled people working across two shifts. After filling all ten of the new positions, the team will be 50-strong.

Rolls-Royce has said this team is the most international in the company, with the nationalities represented including Canadian, Brazilian, Portuguese, Ukrainian, German and Polish, as well as the UK. Current team members have come from a variety of industries, including saddlery, lingerie, upholstery, couture work and sail-making. The team also hosts interns, apprentices and graduates during their time at the company.

Leathershop general manager, Andrew Monachan, said on announcing the new jobs: “I am delighted to confirm that we have expanded our leathershop. Every one of our cars is hand-built to order and we are reintroducing craft skills that, in many cases, would otherwise have lain dormant or been lost completely.”

Potential candidates should have suitable skills but do not need to currently be working as a machinist. Skills gained in a previous role or as a hobbyist could be appropriate and full and extensive training will be provided.
