Algerian tannery finds funding for new machinery

11/12/2013
A tannery in north-western Algeria that had to close after flood-damage almost four years ago is preparing to start production again.

The El-Amria tannery was flooded in January 2010, leading to its closure and its more than 100 workers being laid off. But a new line of credit and investment from the provincial authorities in Aïn Témouchent will allow the company to buy new equipment, give its former employees their jobs back and create around 20 new jobs.

According to local media reports, El-Amria has already used the funding to buy some of the new tanning equipment it needs from unnamed companies in France and Italy. It expects to being production again by the end of January 2014.
