Italian footwear industry reaches new pay agreement
06/12/2013
A previous agreement expired in March 2013 and industry representatives have said a new arrangement recognising the effects on workers of recent changes in the industry had become urgent.
Changes in the exhibition schedule and ongoing competition from Asia have changed some aspects of Italian firms’ production cycles, with knock-on changes for work schedules and holiday times.
Cleto Sagripanti, president of industry association Assocalzaturifici, said the new agreement was the result of “long and painstaking work”, but said it reflected a long-term vision in the Italian industry that workers and company owners now share more than they have in the past.
