Cambodia growth for US beef

04/12/2013
US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) director in the ASEAN region, Sabrina Yin, has said a formal meat trade protocol between the US and Cambodia will make it easier for importers in the Asian country to bring in beef and other meat products from the US.

In 2012, US beef exports to Cambodia totalled 130 tonnes valued at just over $1.1 million. In the first nine months of 2013, exports had already reached 170 tonnes valued at $1.8 million.

While Cambodia has a population of 15 million and a per capita GDP of only $2,400, Ms Yin has said there are opportunities for the US to supply beef for Cambodia’s growing tourism sector and its large expatriate population, including many people from Japan and South Korea.
