Growth of more than 50% for Paraguayan leather

Paraguay’s animal health and quality service Senacsa has confirmed exports of 112,500 tonnes of hides and leather, at all stages of processing, for the first ten months of 2013.

This figure represents growth of 52.3% in terms of volume compared to the same period last year.

In terms of value, exports of hides and leather had a value of $177.4 million for the ten-month period, 43.5% more than for the same period in 2012.

The situation in Paraguay has improved in part because two major tanning operations, Cencoprod and Grupo Concepción, have practically doubled their production in recent years, Senacsa said. The organisation added that the leather sector is making a good contribution to Paraguay’s overall export performance and now accounts for 9.5% of all cattle-sector exports.
