Another leathergoods success story for rural France
21/11/2013
Four separate manufacturing firms have now set up factories there, employing a total of 200 skilled, local artisans.
Traditionally, this area in the department of Indre was a centre for garment manufacture, but competition from Asia led to many factories closing down. But the skills local people developed have proved to be a God-send for luxury leathergoods manufacturers such as Siroon, Société de Maroquinerie de l’Indre, Steno Maroquinerie and Société Maroquinerie du Berry.
Siroon was the first to arrive, ten years ago, with the other three leathergoods companies arriving to occupy empty production facilities in 2009, 2010 and 2012 respectively.
All of these companies are focused on making products for big-name luxury brands. They are usually happy to keep a low profile, but their presence, their commitment to quality and their success are all causes for celebration for Le Blanc.
