Osprey to open new London flagship in the spring

Graham Ellisdon, founder of luxury leathergoods brand Osprey London, has insisted that consumer-facing companies need to be respectful of how busy people are these days.

In an interview in the Daily Telegraph, Mr Ellisdon, who founded Osprey in 1979 and still owns 100% of the brand, said he only sends his company’s electronic newsletter to the 70,000 VIP customers on its mailing list when he genuinely has something to say to say. “You have to be sensitised to customers,” he told the newspaper. “Retailers should be respectful of people’s time.”

He said his strategy works because every time he does send the newsletter out, sales increase.

Osprey is expecting turnover to grow to £15 million this year and £18 million in 2014. In the spring, it plans to open a new flagship store in London’s Regent Street.
