Pakistan: government may lift ban on live animal export

Reports from Pakistan suggest the government there may consider lifting a ban on the export of live animals.

Reacting to the news, the chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association, Sheikh Saqib Saeed Masood, said the move would have a serious effect on the tanning industry in Pakistan, which he said is already importing around 20% of its raw material owing to a shortage in the domestic market.

Further restrictions on the availability of domestic raw material will push production costs higher, he warned.
