Australia exported 104,000 kilos of beef and veal during the month of October, an increase of 11% on the volume for the same month last year.

Commentators said increased demand from South Korea, the US and China, and the beginnings of a recovery in shipments to Indonesia, had helped to compensate for a fall in exports to Japan.

Australian packers say their business in Japan is coming under intense pressure from competitors in the US.
