China’s leather exports up 9% in first nine months

According to statistics published by the China Leather Industry Association, China’s leather industry exports totalled $60.3 billion dollars from January to September 2013, an increase of 9% compared with the same period last year.

Taken month by month compared with 2012, the start of the year saw big increases, the middle few months recorded declines but comparisons picked up again from July.

January’s $8.4 billion of exports was 40% higher than in January 2012; February’s $5.2 billion was 92% higher than the corresponding month the previous year; March’s $4.3 billion was 13% less; April’s $5.8 billion was 2% higher; May saw a decline of 2% to $6.7 billion; June declined 1.2% to $7.2 billion; July was up 0.2% at $6.7 billion; August was up 3% at $7.5 billion; and in September, the industry’s exports were worth 6% more than in September 2012 at $8.4 billion.
