Growth for Indian leather

India’s leather industry recorded year-on-year growth of 13.6% in its export revenues for the first five months of the current financial year, April-August 2013.

Total export revenues across the sector were close to $2.4 billion for the period.

Exports of finished leather contributed $521 million to this total, which represents growth of 9.9% compared to the same period in 2012. There was also growth for exports of leather accessories, up by 13.9% to $533 million, and of leather garments, up 2.8% to almost $240 million.

In terms of value, leather footwear exports recorded an increase of 12.7% to reach $805 million.
