Chrysler sales are bright spot for Fiat

01/11/2013
Luxury car brand Chrysler, which Fiat has controlled since 2009, saw revenues rise 13.5% to $17.6 billion in the third quarter of this ueat, as strong sales of its pickup trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee helped offset a delay in sales for the smaller Jeep Cherokee.

Chrysler's US market share fell to 11.2% in the quarter from 11.3% a year ago, but analysts think it will improve with the Cherokee launch.

However, its growth was not enough to stop Fiat cutting its sales and profits forecast because of weak sales in Latin America.

The region, and Chrysler, have become increasingly important to Fiat as its business in Europe struggles with a six-year slump as the mid-market lags the luxury segments.
