Growth for Bata in India and Bangladesh

Bata India, one of the largest footwear manufacturers and retailers in the country, announced sales for the third quarter rose 14% to $780 million and profit rose 17% to $60 million.

Managing director Rajeev Gopalakrishnan said: “Bata has witnessed constant growth, which endorses our strong understanding of the consumer needs. The collection has vastly improved over the years and we have launched contemporary and fashionable designs."

The company opened its largest store during the quarter. The Viviana Mall, Thane, store occupies 20,000 square feet and offers an extensive range of footwear and accessories.

Bata India, which has opened 100 stores this year, retails through 1,360 stores located in 500 cities.

Similarly, Bata (Bangladesh) has reported growth. It had profits of Taka 541.14 million ($7 million) during nine months from January to September, a 17% rise on the  corresponding period last year.

Bata (Bangladesh) operates two manufacturing facilities - one in Tongi and the other in Dhamrai, with a production capacity of 110,000 pairs of shoes per day. The company also has a tannery with an output of 5 million square feet of leather annually. Annual shoe sales currently stand at slightly more than 30 million pairs.
