Italian shoe companies see Turkey’s potential
01/11/2013
For the first six months of 2013, imports Italian shoes into Turkey decreased 8.1% in volume, to total 855,022 pairs, yet the price per pair increased 6%, which Assocalzaturifici says is a “positive signal”.
Last year saw increases over 2011 - 11.5% in volume (1,721,503 pairs) and 9.9% in value (€61.3m).
Leather and footwear, which account for 55% of total exports, enjoyed a 7.1% increase in price per pair in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year.
"We have chosen to have a presence in this market because we are convinced of its hidden potential," said Cleto Sagripanti, president of Assocalzaturifici. "We have decided to arranged this first meeting because the country has always represented an important trade hub between Europe and the Middle East, and an interesting outlet for Italian footwear.
"The increasingly mature taste of consumers and industry operators, their interest in high range products, which leads them to choose more expensive products, and their interest in proposals from abroad, are signs that demonstrate the importance of exporting top quality products, such as Italian-made shoes."
