Vietnam to monitor imports of tanning machinery from China

28/10/2013
The Vietnamese government is in talks about restricting imports of outdated technology - including tanning machinery.

HCMC vice-chairman Le Manh Ha urged closer scrutiny on machinery from China, following an announcement in 2011 that China would close 2,255 facilities with outdated technology that pollute the environment.

“There is high likelihood that Chinese enterprises have tried to sell old equipment and machines to Vietnam,” said an officer at the HCMC Department of Science and Technology.

He will propose that the Ministry of Science and Technology delegate power to localities to control the import of old machinery.
