Continuous power needed for Pakistani tanners post-Eid

Sheikh Saqib Saeed Masood, the chairman of the Pakistan Tanners’ Association, has asked that the government approve a continuous supply of electricity and gas to tanners for the next 45 to 60 days to help them process the hides and skins of sacrificial animals collected after Eid al-Aldha.

Tanners are expected to receive more than 5.5 million skins following the Muslim festival – around a third of the year’s supply.

However, Mr Masood said they will face problems if the scheduled power cuts take places, diminishing the country’s potential for foreign exchange earnings, and it could lead to tanners failing to meet the time frames set for exports.
