Dr Wolfram Scholz has been appointed as visiting professor at the department of biomass and leather engineering of the University of Sichuan, China.

This academic year he will give lectures to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of environmental engineering for the leather industry.

Dr Scholz said in his appointment speech that the scientific interchange between the university and the industry is two-way, and is an essential part of developing a clean environmental future for the leather industry.

He will develop environmental technologies for recycling as well as for effluent, solid waste and emission treatment as part of a research cooperation with the university. The focus will be on developing energy-efficient technologies to solve environmental issues, to improve environmental performance and reduce the carbon footprint of the Chinese leather industry.

Dr Scholz presented a paper on environmental sciences at the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) congress in Istanbul in May, 2013.
