Change at the top for Burberry as H1 sales rise 20%

15/10/2013
Luxury leathergoods and fashion group Burberry has announced its chief creative officer Christopher Bailey will take over as CEO from Angela Ahrendts, who is leaving for Apple in 2014.

Under Ms Ahrendts, who led the UK’s largest luxury company for almost eight years, sales more than doubled to about £2 billion pounds ($3.2 billion).

First-half retail sales rose 20% to £694 million pounds, with outerwear and large leathergoods driving half of that growth.

Ms Ahrendts said: “Burberry is in brilliant shape, having built the industry's most powerful management team, converted the business to a dynamic digital global retailer, created a world class supply chain, state of the art technology infrastructure, sensational brand momentum and one of the most closely connected creative cultures in the world today."
