COTANCE celebrates as pilot scheme accepted by the EC

COTANCE, the European leather industry’s representative body in Brussels, has announced that the sector’s submission for an EU pilot for leather has been retained by the European Commission as one of the 14 successful pilots from 90 applications.

At the COTANCE Council, held in Bologna on October 11, 2013, on the sideline of the Lineapelle leather fair, representatives said this will enable them to develop the sector’s official product category rules for the environmental footprint of leather.

The start will be delayed, however, so as to allow a parallel development with the EU pilots for the food industry, whose call for candidatures is to be issued in early 2014.

COTANCE expressed its gratitude to all the organisations, leather sector institutions and bodies that sent letters of commitment, interest or support in the preparation of the application.
