Bangladesh: Associations fail to agree on raw hide prices

Bangladesh Tanners Association and the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters' Association (BFLLGFEA) have failed to fix prices for raw hides after reaching a stalemate at a meeting on October 3.

Local publication Financial Express reported BFLLGFEA president Belal Hossain as saying: “It's probable that there would be higher prices this year, but there would be greater number of sacrificial animals also, which may cause the price to lower."

Sources said the industry does not have last year's carried-over stocks which means tanners will have to purchase more hides of sacrificial animals.
