‘Highest quality leather’ will be calling card of LV’s new designer

French fashion brand Louis Vuitton has hired Proenza Schouler accessories designer Darren Spaziani to create collections made from "leather of the highest quality".

The appointment comes as the group seeks to reposition itself as more exclusive after waning demand for its LV-embossed canvas bags, and its sees leather as integral to the plan.

"He knows the maison well and will bring modern vision and professionalism to Louis Vuitton's creations," said group CEO Bernard Arnault.

Mr Spaziani graduated from London fashion school Central Saint Martins and worked for Louis Vuitton from 2004 to 2006.

He has previously worked as accessories design director at Balenciaga and did consulting work for Diane von Furstenberg and Tory Burch in New York.
