Loewe and Comme de Garçons celebrate Spain-Japan links

High-end leathergoods brand Loewe and fashion label Comme de Garçons, especially its star designer, Junya Watanabe, have launched a limited-edition clothing and accessory collection that they say commemorate 400 years of cultural links between their countries of origin, Spain (for Loewe) and Japan (for Comme de Garçons and Mr Watanabe).

Arguably, links between Spain and Japan go back more than 400 years, to the arrival of early Spanish Jesuit missionaries and traders in the middle part of the sixteenth century, but 400 years is the length of time highlighted by Loewe.

The new collection combines aspects of both cultures, principally lamb nappa leather from Spain and washed denim from Japan. Skirts, jackets, trousers are all part of the collection, and they are complemented by calf-leather and textile bags.
