Indonesia to import heifers

Agriculture minister for Indonesia, Suswono Asyraf, has invited cattle farmers there to apply for permits to start importing heifers.

This move comes as the government expands its efforts to boost beef and cattle self-sufficiency in the face of a domestic cattle population that fell from 16.7 million head in June 2011 to 14.2 million head in May this year.
