Chinese leather exports down in first half

China’s leather exports in the first half of the year amounted to 280 million square-metres. This represents a decline of almost 20% compared to the same period in 2012.

Exports of leather shoes fell by 3% in volume in the first half to 380 million pairs, although the value of leather shoe shipments rose by 1.1% against last year to $4.9 billion. Imports of leather shoes grew by 7.5% in volume to 10.3 million pairs, which were worth $510 million, 12% higher than the year-ago period.
