Footwear exports from Brazil increase in first half

Revenues from international sales totalled $628 million. The volume shipped rose 10.7% to 69.5 million pairs.
In July, there was 25.4% growth in the number of pairs, 9.4 million, but a 4.9% drop in revenues, to $92 million.
Figures released for trade with the Middle East show footwear exports to the United Arab Emirates grew 29.4% in revenue from January to July this year, worth $10.1 million, compared with $7.8 million in the same period last year.
In contrast, sales to Saudi Arabia declined 21% to $9.8 million.
Shipments to Saudi Arabia totalled 959,800 pairs and shipments to the Emirates, 695 300 pairs
"The Emirates has taken a leading role in the shoe trade, it is a modern import and distribution platform to other Gulf countries," said Abicalçados project coordinator Cristiano Körbe.
In Saudi Arabia, Brazilian brands operate largely through distributors. "They are more likely to reduce their orders at the first sign of crisis," he added.
