Guanajuato footwear exports down in volume but up in value

Figures from the Mexican state of Guanajuato, the biggest producer of leather and footwear in the country, show a decline of 3% in volume of shoe exports in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period the year before.

Industry association Cofoce said the average price of exported shoes had gone up so that, overall, the value of footwear exports was 19.7% higher at $220 million.

Exports of finished and semi-finished leather and of hides and skins were down by 13%, and those of leathergoods by 11%.
