Bolivia wants stronger leathergoods export performance

07/08/2013
Bolivia exported goods valued at almost $6 billion in the first half of 2013. Natural gas, transported to Brazil and Argentina, accounted for the largest proportion of export revenues, but manufacturing industries were the second-biggest contributor with 23.8% of the total.

Responding to the figures, the executive director of export promotions agency Promueve Bolivia, Iván Cahuaya, said that Bolivia needed to strengthen its export performance in value-added manufactured goods and he cited leathergoods as an example. He said: “We need to grow sales of products that are, perhaps, less traditional but for which there is demand in external markets, such as leathergoods, textiles and food products.”
