Industry entrepreneurs in Turkey have set up a formal Turkish Leather Promotion Group after a formal meeting in Istanbul at the end of July.

President of the Group, Lemi Tolunay, said on announcing the development: “Trade in the global leather sector has a value of $225 billion. Our share is only $5 billion, 2.2%, which is very low.”

He said that Turkish companies were already increasing exports to Japan, China, and South Korea and had highlighted Russia, Italy and the US as good targets for future growth. He said the Turkish Leather Promotion Group would have a presence at major Fashion Week events in London, Milan, Paris and NewYork, with prominent campaigns to promote Turkish leather.
