Argentina: new tannery for small town

29/07/2013
A new tannery has opened in the town of Icaño in north-western Argentina.

Funding from a national rural economy fund helped Icaño set up its new municipal tannery, which will focus on producing leather from local raw material for local artisans to use in leathergoods manufacture.

Cristian Torres, who will run the facility, said at the opening that local people had always made their own leather. “But what used to take us a month to produce, we will now be able to make in five days,” he said.
