CEO Dieter Zetsche said in addition to improved sales prospects, cost-cutting efforts are proceeding better than the company had anticipated.
Its Mercedes-Benz CLA compact four-door coupe and a new generation of the S-Class are providing a boost, while its recent sale of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company added EUR 1.34 billion.
The second-quarter results “represent progress in our earnings development, but no cause for complacency,” said Mr Zetsche. “We will continue to work hard on achieving our goals.”
Daimler plans to launch 13 new models over the next eight years in a bid to beat BMW in luxury car sales by the end of the decade.
