Packer announces new facility in southern Paraguay

24/07/2013
Paraguayan packer and tanning firm Grupo Concepción has announced that it will build a new abattoir in Encarnación in the south of the country. It will have a slaughter capacity of 500 head of cattle per day and will mean an investment from the company for around $15 million.

The company said on announcing the development that it wanted to have greater slaughter capacity in the south of Paraguay to have easy access to the large numbers of good-quality cattle that farms and feedyards are producing there and to be able to ship meat efficiently to markets such as Chile.

Chile imposed restrictions on beef imports from Paraguay following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in September 2011, but the market is now fully open again.
