Pakistan’s central bank has confirmed that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country’s leather industry in the financial year just ended (July 2012 to June 2013) was $4.5 million. This represents a decrease of almost 50% compared to the previous financial year.

In 2011-2012, FDI in the Pakistani leather industry was $8.7 million.

The 2012-2013 figure also represents a very small proportion (0.3%) of the total FDI that Pakistan received across all sectors in the most recent financial year. The total FDI was $1.4 billion.
