More LWG success for JBS

LWG is a multi-stakeholder group that assesses the environmental performance of tanneries and awards gold, silver and bronze status to those achieving the best results.
JBS’s finishing plant at Cascavel in the state of Ceará received a gold award in its most recent LWG audit, demonstrating what JBS describes as “a robust policy, focused on continuous improvement of its environmental processes”, with management of energy and water consumption and effluent treatment among the strengths highlighted by auditors.
Another gold award went to the JBS finishing plant at Itumbiara in Goias, while silver awards have gone to two tanneries that process hides to crust stage, those at Lins in São Paulo and Uberla^ndia in Minas Gerais.
JBS has attributed the success of its tanneries in part to an internal sustainability committee the group has set up, responsible for finding new technologies and processes to improve the way the tanneries run, as well as to promote transparency.
