Brazil exported more than 17 million hides in the first half of 2013

June 2013 exports of hides and skins from Brazil showed an increase in value and volume compared to the same month in 2012, but were down on the record-breaking figures for May 2013.

In value terms, hide and skin exporters earned $197.9 million from shipments of 2.7 million hides, up by 9.4% in volume and by 12.8% in volume compared to June 2012.

Accumulative figures for the first half of 2013 show shipments of 17.2 million hides. Of these, 54.9% left Brazil as finished hides, 6.1% as crust and 33.8% as wet blue. A further 4.7% of these shipments by volume were of splits and the remainder as wet salted hides. The figure represents an increase of 23.2% compared to the first half of 2012.

In terms of value, the total amount of money coming into Brazil in the first half of 2013 from exports of hides and skins was almost $1.2 billion, 17% up on the same period in 2012.
