Vietnam’s exports of handbags and other leathergoods increased in value by more than 20% in the first five months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, reaching almost $745 million.

National leather and footwear association, Lefaso, has set a target of $1.7 billion in export revenues for these products this year, compared to $1.5 billion in 2012 and $1.3 billion in 2011.

Reports from Vietnam say the US has been the biggest export market for Vietnamese-made handbags so far this year, with shipments valued at more than $315 million. Japan is the next-biggest, importing more than $90 million worth of Vietnamese handbags in the first five months of 2013.
