A small tannery in Cundinamarca in Colombia specialising in exotic leather has built up its export business to 5,000 valuable skins per year. The company, Ecocaiman, has told local media that it now earns more than $2 million a year from exporting various types of crocodile, snake and ostrich leather to customers in the US, Europe, Mexico, Japan and China.

Company owner, Santiago Ricaurte, has said the company, which has been running for 20 years, owes its progress outside Colombia to having begun to attend international exhibitions in recent years, with the help of the country’s export promotions agency, Proexport.
