Uruguay: exports up; big jump for mutton and lamb

Uruguay’s meat exports in the first half of this year had a value of $909 million, an increase of 5.4% on the same period in 2012. Beef exports contributed 82% of this total.

Exports of mutton and lamb from Uruguay increased by 40.1% in volume in the first six months of this year, compared to the same period in 2012. The total for the first half of 2013 was over 9,000 tonnes compared to less than 6,500 tonnes in 2012. Mutton and lamb exports brought in almost $33.5 million, an increase of 23.5% compared to the first six months of 2012.
