Former hide trader dies

A well known figure in the leather industry, in the UK and beyond, Bob Johnson, died on July 7. Mr Johnson had been ill from a form of blood cancer for four years.

His work in the wider leather industry began in the hide trade in Manchester, after which he ran a tanning equipment supplier, Markendale Machinery.

He went on to provide a third service to the leather industry by running a web hosting company that helped industry organisations, including the International Council of Tanners, the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies and the International Council of Hide Skin & Leather Traders Associations, build up their presence on the internet.
