Details of trends emerge for next Le Cuir À Paris

Leather on show at the next edition of Le Cuir À Paris (September 17-19) will be for the autumn-winter 2014-2015 fashion season. Trends consultant, Claude Vuillermet, has chosen ‘Matière Première’, or ‘Raw Material’ as the overall trends theme for the season.

Ms Vuillermet has explained: “We need to reconnect with the authenticity of materials. In addition, the consumer is increasingly receptive to how products are made and wants to know more about where they come from.”

She says there will be “a very strong desire for suede”, but also for “cold futuristic materials, with mirrored looks or crystallised surfaces”. Cracked effects will remain, but will be “more subtle and sophisticated”. She also says surprise and “unreasonable pairings” will also be attractive, with unexpected combinations such as perforated leather on stretch jersey, or fine leather on a chunky knit making their way into fashion collections.

In terms of colours for the autumn-winter 2014-2015 season, she says red will be a major theme; “a warm, velvety red like a Burgundy wine, or fiery between flamboyant orange or brick”. Green will continue to be popular, taking on sparkling or deep emerald shades. Blues will also still be part of the palette: cold neutrals, reminiscent of the shades of construction materials, along with very feminine powdery colours. “The arrival of new chocolate or caramel browns is one of the highlights of the range,” she says, blacks are also still present, sometimes veering towards aubergine or navy.
