Cow slaughter up in Mato Grosso

04/07/2013
Official statistics from the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso show that livestock farmers there sent a higher number of cows to slaughter in the first five months of 2013 than in the same period in any other year on record.

In total, between January and May 2013, almost 1.3 million cows went to slaughter in Mato Gross, an increase of 12.2% compared to the same five months in 2012.

Analysts have commented that the overall herd size in Mato Grosso has always declined in years in which there is a more than 10% increase in cows aged two years or more in the cattle mix at slaughter.
