The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) is preparing for its 2013 Latin American Showcase event, which will take place in Guatemala on July 10 and 11. More than 30 US meat companies will take part in this year’s event, allowing them to present their products to 50 buyers from 10 different Latin American countries, from Chile in the south to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean.

Gerardo Rodriguez, USMEF’s director of trade development for Central America and the Dominican Republic, said in the build-up to the gathering that it has almost doubled in size since previous events in Panama in 2011 and Colombia in 2012.

Between 2009 and 2012, US beef exports to Central and South America increased in value from $25 million to $134 million, USMEF said.
