Extra measures required at Istanbul cluster as city grows around tanneries

Leather industry commentators in Turkey have pointed out that the tanning cluster was established 20 years and that, at the time, it was outside the city. Since then, ongoing development in Istanbul has meant that residential and shopping areas, as well as the university, have grown up around the site.
The authorities running the cluster have said they will make improvements, especially in liming, waste management and water treatment to alleviate the problem.
