Brazil reports record Q1 cattle slaughter

27/06/2013
Cattle slaughter in Brazil in the first quarter of 2013 reached a record total for this period of the year of more than 8.1 million head.

This represents an increase of 12.7% on the figure for the first quarter of 2011. The first three months of the year are usually the quietest in the Brazilian cattle slaughter industry as it’s summer in almost all of the country.

Throughout 2013 so far, Brazilian tanners have been reporting large increases in the number of hides they are exporting. Some industry commentators have said that this is partly a reaction to the high price of raw materials from other markets, including the US.
