Indonesia fears herd decline could be 20%

Indonesia’s central statistics agency has said it has still to conclude a study it undertook earlier this year to measure the country’s cattle herd.

A senior official has confirmed a decline in the number of head of cattle in the country but stopped short in recent comments to local media of confirming earlier suggestions that the herd size in 2012 was 20% smaller compared to 2011.

Recent reports quoting the agency have put the 2012 cattle population at 12 million head.
