Minister repeats footwear target for Argentina

Argentina’s industry minister, Débora Giorgi, was guest of honour at the latest edition of the Efica footwear exhibition in the Costa Salguero exhibition centre in Buenos Aires.

Ms Giorgi visited on the final day of the show, June 25. She urged Argentina’s footwear manufacturers to use their creativity, their technical know-how and their production capacity to grow the industry’s exports, broadening the markets to which they ship Argentinean shoes.

She went on to say: “Footwear is a strategic sector for the development of Argentinean industry. We have had a marvellous decade, increasing our annual shoe production by 140% and creating 35,000 jobs.”

The minister pointed out that production levels had reached 120 million pairs in 2012 and repeated the target of reaching 200 million pairs by 2020.
