At conference to promote leather supply chains in Sub-Saharan Africa, organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) and the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises shared their experiences with African counterparts.

The event was held in Ethiopia and aimed to increase cooperation across the region, to set mandatory and voluntary standards, to facilitate market access and aggregate supply chain information about hides and skins, chemicals, accessories and designs.

Unctad said trade volumes have the potential to increase tenfold if barriers are removed from leather supply chains in Sub-Saharan Africa, reported local publications.
