The National Bargaining Council for the Leather Manufacturing Industry and the Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers' Union have settled a round of negotiations that will see tanners in the country receiving a pay rise this year and next.

As reported by AllAfrica.com, the two-year deal reached with the South African Tanning Employers' Association provides for a 7% wage increase with effect from July 1 and a further 7% rise from July 1 next year.

The committees also agreed two days extra annual bonus for the non-auto tanning sectors: one day with effect from July 1 and a second added next July.

The agreement was signed on June 3 and will benefit about 3,800 employees in 36 tanning companies, according to the publication.
