Jump in leather exports from Montenegro

The Statistics Office of Montenegro has released figures showing exports of raw hides, skins and leather rose 37.5% in 2012 from the previous year.

The value of exported raw hides and skins totalled €6.97 million compared with €4.67 million in 2011. Leather and dressed fur skins totalled €278,000, slightly lower than the €282,000-worth the year before.

About €58,000 worth of handbags were exported in 2012 and €690,000 of footwear – although the agency doesn’t state what percentage was leather.

The value of exported dyeing, tanning and colouring chemicals was €109,000 – a marked drop from €1.35 million in 2011.
