Rawlings wants chrome-free leather for baseball gloves

Spanish tanning group Incusa has said US sports equipment company Rawlings has become one of the users of its Sanotan chrome-free leather.

Sanotan is the brand name Valencia-based Incusa uses for the leather it produces using titanium instead of chromium. Rawlings will use it to make baseball gloves, the Spanish company said recently.

Incusa began making titanium-tanned leather in 2011 as part of a research project run by Spanish footwear research body Inescop. By 2012, the tanning group said it would devote 25% of its production (around 1,300 bovine hides per day in total) to Sanotan.
