Chinese footwear group moves production to Nigeria

Reports from Nigeria say a Chinese firm is building a footwear factory in the Dadi district and is looking for 5,000 locals to staff it.

A number of Chinese footwear groups are establishing production in Africa to take advantage of proximity to raw materials, labour costs and favourable incentives.

Lee Group of Companies said construction should be completed by December and it expects the factory, which will produce leather sandals among others, to be operational by next May.

In the longer term, the group has plans to invest in sugar production, juice manufacturing, organic fertiliser and building materials.
